LaVilla Hotel, Piedmont, Italy

La Vie Restaurant

La Vie Restaurant was opened in response to the overwhelming demand from our guests, to be able to eat at the hotel...However, as we said before 'living in an area with so many great value, gourmet Piemontese restaurants we thought we would be crazy to go into the food business'.

We have no intention to compete with these wonderful restaurants and chefs that abound in this area. Rather, we want to give our guests a simple but high quality alternative to the traditional cuisine of Piedmont. We offer lighter meals, using the freshest ingredients bought daily from the market - but always in an Italian style.

Our chef, Zoltan, has been working as a chef for over 10 years, both in his native Hungary and internationally. His recent claims to fame include selecting La Villa in preference to prestigious 5 star hotels in Dubai and in the Maldives. The chef who he was training last year has just won Apprentice Chef of the Year in Hungary.

Zoltan

Zoltan has come to Italy with his wife and 2 year old son for a new quality of life, but still intends to get his first Michelin star with us within the next 5 years.

At lunchtime, we offer simple salads, frittata and sandwiches to keep you going by the pool. For dinner, we often sit outside under the pergola or in the courtyard, especially on BBQ evenings.

In the evening we offer a 4 course meal (5 courses on Sunday!), including a cheeseboard.

Press Interest

The food and wine of Piemonte, especially the white truffle, has attracted a great deal of media interest and we have been fortunate to appear on TV several times, as well as appearing in many magazines and newspapers. Some of the coverage includes BBC World, The Luxury Channel (Europe), 7 Gold (Italy), Francesco's Italy, The London Times and many others.

Cooking Courses

White truffles and mushrooms, risotto, amazing cheeses including gorgonzola (still a bone of contention with neighbouring Lombardia!), robiola and many others, the freshest of fresh food from the daily markets, piemontese beef, fresh seafood - all washed down with the wines of Barbera, Barolo, Barbaresco or Gavi and a Grappa to finish!

Some of the local cheeses

As befits a restaurant in the home of the Slow Food movement, we take food, wine and the presentation of the food very seriously. But!! Unhurried, relaxed and informal enjoyment of the food and wine is still the key. Drinking in the scenery as the sun sets over the hills, while enjoying great food and a bottle of great local wine is a must.

Mushrooms at the Market

We offer a number of cooking courses during the year. We are delighted to host Joanne Weir's Culinary Adventures - see her Web Site for details of her programmes. She will next be with us in October 2009. in the area.

Joanne Weir's Cooking Course

Joanne, who is based in San Francisco, is an award winning cookbook author (we use her great books!), TV chef and highly renowned cooking teacher.

Once or twice a year, we also welcome Savory Adventures who run cooking classes as part of a gourmet experience. Their next visit to La Villa is in September 2008.

We now also offer a number of our own food and cooking experiences, based at La Villa.

Individual and Bespoke Cooking Courses

We are happy to arrange personal cooking courses throughout the year. Whether you want a one-to-one lesson or a group session, Zoltan can agree a programme (and any special dishes you want to learn) with you.
